Cada 15 de enero desde 1932 se celebra este día, como un recordatorio que en tiempos de Juan Vicente Gómez como presidente, los educadores conformaron la Sociedad Venezolana de Maestros de Instrucción Primaria, para defender sus derechos laborales, y mejorar la educación en el país.
Años más tarde, se proclamó la referida fecha para homenajear a los educadores venezolanos y recordar la creación de la Sociedad Venezolana de Maestros.
Hoy día los educadores del país, más que celebrar esta fecha histórica, lo conmemoran protagonizando un paro de actividades educativas, que inició con el nuevo año escolar este 2023, como medida de exigencia de mejoras salariales, que dignifiquen tan importante y loable labor, formadora de hombres y mujeres útiles para la nación.
Ser maestro significa realizar un trabajo paciente y firme, ser astuto, sutil, fuerte, resistente y perseverante. Por encima de todo significa saber amar y comprender claramente la influencia que puede proyectarse sobre los alumnos.
