¡SÉPANLO! Minería de criptomonedas afecta al sistema eléctrico

El mundo de las criptomonedas dejó de ser un tabú para los venezolanos con la implementación del petro, la primera moneda virtual del país que está respaldada por el oro, petróleo, gas y diamantes.

El pasado 20 de febrero, la nación presenció el lanzamiento oficial del petro. “Hoy pasará a ser un día de historia. Es el primer Estado que lanza su criptomoneda, respaldada en sus reservas y riquezas naturales”, expresó el vicepresidente de la República, Tareck El Aissami.

Desde entonces, los ciudadanos despejaron sus dudas sobre la implementación de la nueva moneda de origen venezolano. Todo parecía transcurrir con normalidad, sin embargo, el sistema eléctrico ha sufrido las consecuencias de la minería de criptodivisas.

El 22 de febrero, a tan solo dos días de oficializar el petro, ocurrió una falla en la línea 765 en la subestación La Arenosa-Yaracuy 1 y 2 que provocó un apagón en 11 estados del suroccidente del país: Zulia, Trujillo, Lara, Aragua, Carabobo, Barinas, Portuguesa, Mérida, Táchira, Falcón y Yaracuy quedaron afectados. La falta del servicio se prolongó por más de 10 horas.

La subestación Cabimas en la Costa Oriental del Lago (COL) y Los Robles en Maracaibo se incendiaron durante la madrugada del 23 de febrero sin precisar mayores detalles por parte de la Corporación Eléctrica Nacional (Corpoelec), hasta el momento.

¿Qué relación tiene la criptomoneda con la electricidad del país?, Helímenas Espina, economista zuliano y especialista en el área, conversó con el equipo del diario Versión Final y mostró su preocupación por la demanda de bitcoin que se genera en el país.

A su criterio, esta actividad económica perjudica totalmente la eficiencia energética de Venezuela, teniendo en cuenta que actualmente no se realiza el mantenimiento apropiado a las estaciones que suministran el servicio.

¿Por qué la minería colapsa al sistema eléctrico?

Espina explicó que una máquina minera consume 1.000 kilovatios en tan solo 12 horas, mientras que una casa estándar obtiene un consumo de 500 kilovatios por mes.

“Hay que tener en cuenta que una máquina para generar bitcoin trabaja durante 24 horas, lo que se traduce a la electricidad necesaria para cuatro hogares venezolanos”, explicó.

Detalló que actualmente existen 200 mil equipos registrados en Venezuela, sin mencionar los que no han declarado por temor a que el Estado los decomise.

Desde su perspectiva, esta cantidad de aparatos en funcionamiento estaría significando el consumo eléctrico de 400 mil viviendas por un mes en el territorio nacional, afectando a más de 5 millones de ciudadanos.

Comentó que los bajones que afectan a la población tienen dos consecuencias, la falta de mantenimiento que causa la paralización de dos subestaciones eléctricas y el valor agregado de la minería está colapsando por completo el servicio en el país. “Urge correctivos para la optimización de los parques eléctricos en la entidad”, añadió.

Minería del bitcoin

Willian Martínez, minero colombiano, confirmó que el consumo de una máquina generadora de bitcoin se traduce a una gran inversión eléctrica para poderse sustentar.

Explicó que no solo se trata de obtener una máquina que cuesta más de 100 mil dólares para minar criptodivisas, sino que se necesita una gran infraestructura que tenga la capacidad suficiente para funcionar 24 horas al día, los 365 días del año

Detalla que la minería es exigente, porque los equipos tienden a recalentarse, adicional a un servicio de electricidad industrial de 220 voltios.

Algunos de los requerimientos para el desarrollo de la actividad es la instalación de 220 voltios, aires acondicionados de 5 toneladas y buen servicio de Internet, que deben funcionar sin detenerse, según explicó Martínez.

El minero comentó que generar un bitcoin podría demorarse hasta tres años, dependiendo de la capacidad y el modelo del equipo utilizado. También mostró su preocupación por la falta de mantenimiento del servicio eléctrico, cuando ya el Gobierno ha legalizado la minería en el país.

Juan Pablo Vera, coordinador del Consejo Zuliano de la Criptomoneda, indicó que el estado Zulia es importante para el país por poseer mayor minería digital. “Quiere decir que nosotros tenemos conocimiento empírico sobre las criptomonedas”.

Legalización

Nicolás Maduro, presidente de la República, legalizó el curso de las monedas digitales el pasado 26 de enero, al proponer la activación de granjas mineras desde los liceos y universidades con el objetivo de profundizar todas las criptomonedas que existen. “Vamos a crear los proyectos para la minería juvenil y la creación de granjas juveniles de minado”.
